全球通用的耐火电缆标准的着眼点是依赖电缆绝缘保持其在火灾条件下完整性的能力。英国标准BS6387“在火灾条件下保持线路完整性的电缆性能要求”提出了一些衡量不同火焰温度、喷水和机械冲击条件下电缆性能的判据。这个被称为“CWZ”的最高级别的标准，即耐火电缆耐火性能分类试验标准，是目前世界上耐火电缆的最高标准。这个标准的具体试验要求是：
英国BS6387 C类耐火电缆：经受950℃火焰烧180分钟；
